Cameo Pin

Added 11 months ago by MizDom via Vintage Junkys The tradition of carving shell to produce cameos grew popular during the Renaissance, or early 15th to 16th century. Using shell, as opposed to gemstone, produced a more informal accessory, one that women could wear everyday. This rare find features a relief of a gorgeous Grecian goddess, whose detailed silhouette is delicately carved to bring out the shell’s natural creamy hues. The museum-worthy pendant is then set in a filigree-framed brooch.
