When he wasn’t designing modern furniture or urban landmarks, the legendary architect Alvar Aalto had his hand in glassware. An enduring favorite to this day, his iconic Aalto Vase is still produced by expert Finnish glassblowers at the Iittala factory near Helsinki. Shown here in a clear 3.75-inch version, this sinuous vessel has a fluid, undulating shape that alludes to the untamed shorelines of Finland’s many lakes. The modern classic is perfectly suited for small bunches of spring flowers, but Aalto himself would have encouraged you to experiment.

The world-renowned glass and tabletop manufacturer Iittala started as a small glass factory in an eponymous Finnish village in 1881. It became a major force in Scandinavian design in the 1920s and 1930s, when Iittala established itself as a maker of innovative, versatile, and functional products. These iconic designs are still in production, along with new classics.
