With one foot planted firmly in the macabre and the other in a world of humor, Turkish artist Ali Gulec’s illustrations are both unusual and arresting. Focusing on all things occult, perverse, subliminal, unexpected, and playfully dark, these shape-shifting digital prints try on different styles seemingly at will. And yet, they’re all clearly situated in Gulec’s delirious and deranged universe—a place that anyone with a taste for the strange will want to see.
Based in Istanbul, Turkish artist and graphic designer Ali Gulec has an eye for images that oscillate between the macabre, irreverent, and absurd. Working at his ikiiki Design Studio, Gulec blends traditional illustration with computer imaging to produce prints, collages, even graphic apparel dressed in often-humorous designs as creative as they are confounding.
