While laser cutting is often used to create intricate patterns and elaborate details, designer Olavo Machado Neto uses the technique to achieve a simple, equally transfixing result. This Carranca is his rendition of a traditional lucky charm, which was originally used on top of boats floating down Brazil’s Säo Francisco River to ward off evil spirits. Made from a single sheet of powder-coated aluminum, the snarling figurine will make an eye-catching addition to your desk or tabletop—and might even scare away a few unwanted visitors if you’re lucky.
