Dated October 23, 2007, this beautiful photograph captures the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery on a mission heading toward Earth-orbit and a scheduled link-up with the International Space Station. Inside this spacecraft are astronauts Pam Melroy, commander; George Zamka, pilot; Scott Parazynski, Stephanie Wilson, Doug Wheelock, European Space Agency’s Paolo Nespoli, and Daniel Tani (all mission specialists). Scheduled to link up with the station on October 25th, they were delivering the Italian-built U.S. Node 2 called Harmony.
Liftoff occurred at 11:38:19 a.m. (EDT) from Kennedy Space Center’s launch pad 39A. Printed on museum-grade paper with fine quality digital giclée printing using up to 12-color archival inks.
