Whether you’re walking the shoreline or wandering the city streets, the Gema Necklace radiates breezy appeal. Thin slices of hand-dyed tagua beads are held together by sturdy cotton with a silver-plated lobster clasp. The piece is handmade by Mujus in Peru.
18" circumference, 3" extender. Mujus’ signature material is the tagua seed, which comes from a palm tree that grows in Amazon rainforest. When ripe, the tagua fruit falls to the ground and is gathered and dried by local communities for a period of up to eight months, after which they become extremely hard and ivory-like. Since the seeds are harvested after they have fallen to the ground, there is no damage done to the rainforest during the harvesting process. As no two seeds are alike, each Mujus piece is unique.
