Portrait of Isamu Noguchi from 1982. Says Schulman: “Willem De Kooning introduced me to his dealer Charles Egan, who assigned me to photograph all his artists. One of them was Isamu Noguchi. The session did not go well, Noguchi said I didn’t know what I was doing and walked out. I still sent him this print afterwards, and didn’t hear back. A few years later I saw it in a publication Pace Wildenstein had made for Sotheby’s. Apparently he had chosen it. It taught me a very good lesson about not taking negative feedback too seriously.

Richard Schulman has photographed many of the world's most important artists, architects and cultural figures. He is equally well known for his  photographs of iconic architecture. Each print is initialed by the photographer. This unframed work is reprinted by the artist from his archives.
