The original J. H. Ireland Grill Room opened in Chicago in 1906. Over the next two decades proprietor Jim Ireland expanded the property, adding a lobster grotto, a marine room, and a banqueting hall, modeled after the saloon of a passenger ship. This 1940s menu cover by folk artist Charles Jerred has wonderfully vibrant shades of green and red, and showcases what was one of Chicago’s best-loved restaurants.
