In photographer Jody MacDonald’s words: Rajan is “a 60-year-old Asian elephant that was brought to the Andaman Islands and forced to swim logged trees out to commercial boats at sea. Since logging was banned in 2002, Rajan has lived with his mahout (caretaker) of 30 years, Nazroo. When Rajan dies, we will probably never see an ocean swimming elephant again. He is truly the last of his kind. A photograph for those with a conscience, a portion of the proceeds for each photo sold is donated to the American Red Cross to help with the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.
