This mug is inspired by the mosaic, a meticulous traditional Mediterranean art form. Mosaic layout prototypes were carefully preserved and transmitted from the maalem (or master) to his apprentice in order to prevent copying. The cut stones of the mosaic, called zellige, follow an aesthetic, harmonious order that is conveyed through the contrasting patterns in this Images d'Orient collection.

Images d’Orient was founded in 2000 by brother-and-sister team Charbel Raphaël and Peggy Raphaël Dabar after a trip to their native Lebanon. Using PVC as its chief material, the brand’s contemporary collection of housewares honors the Mediterranean’s cultural heritage by recalling the distinctive history of the region’s traditional crafts and art forms.
