This Moucharabieh soap rest is inspired by the Moucharabieh, a screen built out of small wooden elements to form a complex geometrical scheme. This meticulous technique was traditionally used on windows, balconies, ceilings, vaults, and furniture throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. When used for windows, moucharabieh allowed the viewer to observe without being seen, earning this style the nickname, "jealousy windows".The pieces in this eye-catching Images d'Orient collection feature vibrant colors and patterns that may well inspire jealousy of their own.

Images d’Orient was founded in 2000 by brother-and-sister team Charbel Raphaël and Peggy Raphaël Dabar after a trip to their native Lebanon. Using PVC as its chief material, the brand’s contemporary collection of housewares honors the Mediterranean’s cultural heritage by recalling the distinctive history of the region’s traditional crafts and art forms.
