Andrew McConnell’s photographic series, The Last Colony, is an exploration of the Sahrawi, an indigenous people of Western Sahara. McConnell’s images demonstrate the heroism of continuing normal routines in the face of impending danger. In Name Withheld, Location Undisclosed, a Sahrawi woman walks along the shoreline like an apparition from the sea. As she glides along the sand, the whiteness of her garb radiates as if she is courage personified. This high-quality giclée print comes to us from Aperture, a nonprofit organization committed to the advancement of photography.
