French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed this lightweight Papyrus Chair for Kartell in 2008. Inspired by the linear, well-defined construction of vintage chairs, its rounded backrest envelops a wide, deep seat. The shell’s exterior is covered in a fine pattern of vertical ridges, which contrast with the chair’s smooth lower half.

Italian furniture company Kartell is renowned for its commitment to high design and its ingenious use of plastic molds. It was founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli, who introduced plastic as a material for innovative and affordable home products. Among Kartell’s most iconic designs are Philippe Starck’s Louis Ghost chair and Ferruccio Laviani’s Bourgie lamp.
