A sibling of the sought-after Vase of Phases, this Phases Bowl symbolizes Dror Benshetrit’s experience as a fledgling designer in New York—fractured, but not broken. The Israeli designer first created a ceramic vessel with a silicone rubber interior that allowed him to shatter the surface without it breaking into pieces. Liquid porcelain was then poured into the cracks, forming a solid bowl that dares to embrace its flaws. Rosenthal manufactured the design using a cast of the original, resulting in a striking piece of innovation.
Designed in 2006. Dror Benshetrit’s Vase of Phases won the 2006 iF product design award and belongs to the permanent collections of Munich’s Staatliches Museum for Applied Art and Tel Aviv’s Eretz Israel Museum.
