Thin slices of tagua. A burst of citrus. The striking Rebelde Necklace (the word for rebel in Spanish) feature hand-dyed slices of tagua held together by a suede leather cord with a lobster clasp. The necklace is handmade by Mujus in Peru.
Approximately 18” circumference with a 3” extender. Mujus’ signature material is the tagua seed, which comes from a palm tree that grows in Amazon rainforest. When ripe, the tagua fruit falls to the ground and is gathered and dried by local communities for a period of up to eight months, after which they become extremely hard and ivory-like. Since the seeds are harvested after they have fallen to the ground, there is no damage done to the rainforest during the harvesting process. As no two seeds are alike, each Mujus piece is unique.
