This unisex sweater by South African designer Laduma Ngxokolo was inspired by a coming of age ritual among Xhosa boys. After returning from their initiation school in the bush, the boys burn their childhood clothing and then acquire a new, dressier wardrobe that is suitable for a chivalrous adult. Laduma created his MaXhosa Knitwear line with the “abakwetha” (initiates) in mind, creating sophisticated pieces made of locally sourced merino wool that is woven into Xhosa patterns. Wear this sweater for a sophisticated look fused with traditional designs and streetwear cool.
