Maral Rapp approaches her jewelry design with a deep appreciation for the artistry and history of her materials. Her pieces are crafted—by hand, mind you—from vintage Whiting & Davis mesh bags dating from the '30s. In the Shield And Banner Neckplate, shapes are carefully carved from the purses by unlocking the individual links' tiny tines, the edges are then outlined with a contrasting border of dark gunmetal chain. To add to the amazingness, this piece is reversible: Wear the flat side for a flashier accent, or the link side for an industrial look with a softer glow.
Necklace measures 18" around. Focal plate is 2.5" x 3". Handmade in San Francisco and signed with a hand-finished brass logo link. Vintage mesh patina varies from bag to bag. Color may vary slightly.
