As soon as sustainable design innovator Yves Béhar caught wind of SodaStream’s environmentally conscious home soda maker, he had to put his creative spin on it. Featuring an earthy beech wood finish, the pared-down Source Soda Maker reflects Béhar’s love of high-tech solutions with a human element. Simply fill the carbonating vessel with tap water, lock it into place, and press the lid to release a jet of bubbles within. Powered by a CO2 canister, this device saves about 550 plastic bottles a year.

Guy Gilbey invented the first SodaStream at London’s gin distillery in 1903. The apparatus—which turns water into soda using CO2 and flavor additions—was used commercially until it entered homes in 1955, becoming a domestic status symbol. SodaStream has made a huge comeback in the war on plastic bottle waste, even partnering with sustainability visionary Yves Béhar.
