Marc Chagall’s paintings seem to burst off the canvas, rich with color and emotions. Drawing on childhood memories, folkloric imagery, and Biblical stories, the Russo-French Modern master applied ideas from Cubism, Surrealism, and Fauvism to his evocative work. Painting alone could not satisfy his artistic curiosity, and he applied his poetic vision to wide variety of media from printmaking and illustration to set design, mosaics, and even stained glass.
