The contemporary art world of the 1980s was a dynamic, if not somewhat chaotic, place that saw previous artistic influences compounded by the image and information saturation of the media age. A place where collage was as commonplace as abstract painting, mixed-media art, sculpture, and conceptual installations, the New York art scene found a unifying trait in a dialogue with consumer culture. This led to the creation of conceptual art that reappropriated previous forms and methods to create new avenues of experience, thought, and interaction.
