Funny to think we might not know Andy Warhol if it weren’t for shoes, but in the beginning Warhol’s most successful commercial work came in the form of fanciful shoe illustrations he completed for J. Miller & Sons. A subject Warhol returned to again and again, including here in Diamond Dust Shoes, footwear provided him with a connotation-laden symbol that touched on fashion, glamour and celebrity, concepts he explored throughout his career.
