Thin slices of tagua. A rainbow of color. The striking Rebelde Necklace (a nod to the Spanish word for “rebel”) features hand-dyed slices of tagua held together by a suede leather cord. Handmade by Mujus artisans in Peru, this runway-worthy piece is the perfect pick-me-up for that streamlined LBD.
Necklace circumference is 18”. Extender chain is 3”. Lobster clasp. As no two seeds are alike, each Mujus piece may differ slightly.
The tagua seed comes from a palm tree that grows in the Amazon. When ripe, the tagua fruit falls to the ground and is gathered and dried for a period of up to eight months, after which they become hard and ivory-like.
Designer Paola Delgado splits her time between Brooklyn and Peru, where she manages the handmade production of Mujus’ designs. Its eco-chic accessories are crafted from tagua seed and its production helps create social change for impoverished communities in Peru.
