Brooklyn Slate’s elegant and ecological table accents originate from co-founder Kristy Hadeka’s family quarry in upstate New York. Each smooth slate surface is selected by hand before being sized, shaped, and artfully chipped at the edges by Hadeka and her partner Sean Tice back in their native borough. This set of two placemats offers a distinctive—and protective—addition to your dining table. The included soapstone chalk allows you to note each guest’s place, or identify dishes when using it as a trivet.
Set of 2 black slate placemats. Slate is washed and treated with a food-safe sealant. Thickness varies, but measures at least .3". To preserve, wipe down with a drop or two of food-safe mineral oil twice a year. Mineral oil helps protect the integrity of the slate and maintains a slightly polished look.
Brooklyn Slate sources natural slate from co-founder Kristy Hadeka’s family quarry in upstate New York. She and her partner Sean Tice then lovingly craft, finish, and package cheese boards, coasters, and placemats in their Red Hook, Brooklyn studio.
