Description

The Embraer EMB-202 “Ipanema” is a low-wing, single-engine agricultural aircraft developed and manufactured in Brazil by Embraer.

At the end of the 1960s, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture signed a contract with Embraer in order to produce an agricultural aircraft in the country, with the aim of modernizing the sector by making new production techniques available, in addition to generating resources for the newly created manufacturer, at the time a state-owned company.

The Ipanema was designed by engineers from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics and tested at Fazenda Ipanema, in the municipality of Sorocaba. The aircraft made its first flight in 1970 and production began in 1972. The Ipanema model EMB 202-A, certified in 2004, is the first series-produced aircraft in the world to operate on ethanol. The number of units produced has already surpassed the twelve hundred mark, of which approximately 30% use biofuel.
