Description

The Mother Tower (Mutterturm) is located in Landsberg am Lech in Bavaria (Germany) in a small park on the west bank of the Lech River .

It was built by the painter, sculptor, musician, writer and pioneer of automobile racing in Germany, Sir Hubert von Herkomer (1849–1914) in honor of his mother, after his parents moved from England to Landsberg (near her) in 1877 at his mother’s request hometowns Waal and Denklingen had moved back and the mother had already died at Christmas 1879.

The 30 meter high tower is an asymmetrical tuff ashlar building divided into five floors. It is assumed that there was a stylistic influence from the architect Henry Hobson Richardson.
