Description

The Abbey of Saint-Cyr de Colera is a Benedictine monastery located near Rabós, in the province of Girona, Catalonia. The abbey is located in the Alto Empordà, about three kilometres west of the coastal village of Colera and 500 metres from the French-Spanish border. It was built between the ninth and twelfth centuries in the pre-Romanesque and Romanesque styles. Monastic life was maintained there from the ninth to the sixteenth century. In 1285, during the Aragon Crusade, the monastery was occupied by the French troops of King Philip III the Bold. In 1288, it was plundered by the troops of King James I of Aragon.
