Description

Photogrammetry scan of the recumbent statue of Queen Berengaria. It is located in the Abbey of L’Etau, near le Mans, France. She was the wife of King Richard the Lionheart of England. She died in 1230 and was buried in the abbey, which she had founded and supported. The statue is made of limestone and shows her lying on a cushion, wearing a crown and a long robe. Her hands are clasped in prayer and her feet rest on a lion. The statue is a remarkable example of 13th-century sculpture and reflects the queen’s piety and dignity.
