Description

The yacht buid In Finland 1922 was originally called “TURO” (translated from Finnish - “Excursion”). Before the Second World War, this 12-meter-long ship was purchased by the Vilnius Girls’ Scout Club. 1934 the sailboat was renamed “Grażyna”. During that time, it became famous and a maritime legend.

The yacht, which had a crew of seven and had four sails, was used for training the scouts, and was maintained by volunteers. One of the main patrons is the former captain of the Polish army, then Silesian Voivodeship Michał Tadeusz Grażyński, whose name dictated the name of the sailing ship. 1933 Jadwiga Wolffowa-Neugebauerowa, a sea scout from Trakai, became the first captain of the yacht in the world, becoming the first captain of Grażyna (until 1935). The ship’s crew was also made up entirely of women. At the time it was a real sensation due to the still prevailing customs and superstitions of not allowing the weaker sex to enter the ships.
