Description

This is a depiction emphasizing the extent of his sacrifice. The idea of this Painting was to emotionally charge and evoke reflection on the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus. A crown of thorns was placed on his head piercing his scalp, serving as a sign of mockery to the suffering he endured while being whipped with a Cat-O-Nine-Tail causing him deep muscle lacerations and severe bleeding. The piercing from the nail on his wrists and feet causing pain, damage to nerves, tendons and bones. Hanging on the cross led to cardiac strain, respiratory distress, muscle fatigue and dehydration which symbolizes the suffering and burden of humanity’s sin he took upon himself. The dark stormy background contrasting with the yellow halo around his head, represents the darkness of the moment and the light of salvation. In all, this painting showing texture and depth enhances the emotional impact of this art piece.
