This documentary explores the tumultuous biography and legacy of the portrait painter Alice Neel (1900-1984). Neel recorded her subjects on canvas through six decades, among them Andy Warhol, Bella Abzug, and Allen Ginsberg. A self-described collector of souls, she lived a bohemian lifestyle in New York City. She sacrificed almost everything for her art, delving so far into the psyche of her subjects she would lose herself. Filmmaker Andrew Neel, Alice’s grandson, pieces together the painter’s life with intimate one-on-one interviews with Neel’s family and personal videos.

The film features audio commentary with Andrew, Hartley, and Richard Neel as well as additional footage including Painted by Alice, Communism and Social Consciousness, Alice’s Apartment and the Porsche Story. Color. Running Time 81 Mins. plus extras. Widescreen
