Class is in session. Today’s guest lecturer is Theresa Cowan, a designer who takes her passion for geology and transforms it into wearable Mineralogy—a line of rockin’ jewelry that highlights the natural beauty of gems and minerals. This Brazilian Necklace is handmade from a combination of kyanite (a silicate mineral that originates from the Greek word for “deep blue”) and Brazilian “oco” geode. Strung on a brass chain, this down-to-earth design earns a rock solid A-plus in our gradebook.

Pendant measures approx. 3” x 2”. Chain length: 28”. Due to the nature of minerals, each piece is unique and may vary slightly in size and appearance.

Theresa Cowan received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a focus in drawing, fashion illustration, and textiles. However, it was a geology class that set her career in motion. After learning about earth’s natural gems, Cowan began incorporating them into her work. In 2011, she started Mineralogy, a collection of raw gemstone jewelry.
