Italian printmaker J.B. Piranesi was so enamored with the ruins of ancient Rome that he brought them back to life and reinvented them in his 19th-century etchings. In this set of two, one work features a temple-like building with caryatid supports and the title, Cariatides—the French term for supports in the form of female figures. The other etching is a dual view of a vase flanked by three female figures also bearing a French description, “Magnifique vase composé d’un groupe de trois femmes.” The prints are framed in black ribbed and gilded wood.

Great vintage condition. Paper on the back of frames has small tears.
