50s Higgins Fused Glass Ashtray

Many of the pieces in this collection are factory cast-offs or salvaged from decaying buildings and estate sales; each is a one-of-a-kind treasure."Enamel-coated glass tray from Higgins Glass Studio, circa 1950. Made by layering one sheet of enameled glass on top of another; the resulting glass sandwich was then placed on a mold and heated. The Higgins Studio was founded in 1948 by Michael and Frances Higgins, who met at the Chicago Institute of Design and pioneered the rediscovery and refinement of the ancient art of glass fusing.
