Antique Cast Iron Owl Andirons

Andirons are commonly used in open fireplaces to elevate logs increasing airflow around the burning material to minimize smoke and fuel the flames. This early 20th-century example produced by the Rostand Manufacturing Co. in Milford CT features two ornate owls of cast iron. The decorative guards feature the birds with beautiful feather detailing perched atop interlocking branches yellow glass eyes glaring forward. These eyes will glow when illuminated by a fire.

"

Good vintage condition. One glass eye is cracked. Each andiron is stamped with the number 918-1.
