Handmade by the Wounaan weavers of the Darién rainforest in Panama the Hösig Di basket is a pictorial vision of the flora and fauna from the surrounding forest. The artists sew palm fibers into the coils of the Naguala palm lending the basket its structure. Fibers are dyed using nature's elements—seeds fruits flowers and the like. The entire process is scrupulous and construction can range from several months to years. But the resulting effect of the immense detail and piercing patterns is immeasurable."
Hösig Di is the Wounaan term for the original coil-construction baskets. Each piece is one of a kind and is made using local materials and dyes. Silk-stitch technique.
