Berry Woven Basket
Leslie Mittelberg founded Swahili African Modern to bring enchanting African handicraft to a global audience, while supporting the artisan communities responsible for it. Wolof women in rural Senegal created this woven basket. The textile is intricately handwoven from dried cattail stalks and strips of salvaged plastic that are often used to weave prayer mats. Fusing artistry and function, the floor covering is laced with cultural significance.
