Coava Kone Coffee Filter
Paper coffee filters weren't good enough for the baristas at the Portland, Oregon coffee shop Coava. They sometimes imparted their paper taste and removed natural oils, which diminishes the coffee's flavor, ; says Coava co-owner Keith Gehrke. After disappointing trials with various reusable metal mesh options, Gehrke set out to design his own filter. In 2010, using steel made in Ohio and welded in Connecticut, he produced the Kone a sleek, sustainable metal filter that leaves natural oils intact and produces coffee its creators are proud to serve.
