This hand-blown apothecary bottle is not only a rustic decorative accent but also a piece of medical history. The relief lettering across its front reads "Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription" which was a turn-of-the-century medicine marketed toward Victorian women as a cure for nervousness melancholy and poor appetite. While Ladies Home Journal reported that Pierce's concoction contained opium he adamantly denied these claims sued the magazine for libel and won."
