Lapid Of Israel Sgraffito Vase
Lapid Pottery was Israel's premier ceramic studio in the 1950s through the 1970s. This vase employs the sgraffito glazing method to create a modern design: the surface of the vase was glazed in two contrasting slips and scratched to create a line drawing effect. In this case an abstract motif wraps around the center of this bulbous vessel cutting into pale gray glaze and revealing brown below. Written on the bottom of the pitcher is Lapid Israel."
